Well, we did as the visitor centre girl in Billings suggested and stopped off at the Makoshika state park just outside of Glen Dive. However, it didn’t look that fantastic from outside the park – interesting, but not fantastic. Yup, we’re turning into natural formation snobs (Grand Canyon does that!). I mean, it was kinda cool, but as the stupid state park system does, it would’ve cost us about ten dollars a car to go in! And we only wanted to spend an hour or two driving through! So we turned around and left.
We drove into North Dakota and stopped in Williston, which was bigger than we thought. We visited a dollar store for the first time since being here – OK so everything is $1.19 with taxes, but that’s still pretty cheap! We bought a couple of things – metal spatula, plastic wines glasses, etc. – Betsey is nearly completely set up! This store was just like a Chickenfeed except that the price was consistent and it wasn’t as bright or as full.
As we went down to the Lewis and Clark State Park we nearly ran over a turtle! Luckily he pulled his head back in. We found a nice spot in the ‘primitive’ camping section (no power or water – but we’ll cope!) and once we’d paid, it was time to have a nice relaxing afternoon in the sunshine. The sun was actually quite hot and it was nice sitting outside enjoying it. I was totally sucked in to a John Grisham novel based on a true story called The Innocent Man about a man framed for a murder he didn’t commit. He was sentenced to death and I just had to find out whether or not his sentence was carried out! I quite like Grisham’s novels and I’ve learnt a lot about American law through reading them! Anyway, this one was even more gripping because it is actually a true story. Needless to say, Will didn’t get much conversation out of me that day! We did have awesome s’mores after dinner as we tried to burn our firewood because we didn’t think we could take it to Canada.
